Celebrating women who box during Women’s History Month -The Promise of Women’s Boxing

I am so proud to be a women’s boxing historian able to chronicle the amazing stories of the women of the ring.

Women have fought since the first forays into boxing in London in the 1720s. It is a history worth studying and preserving.

The Promise of Women’s Boxing tells the stories of the women who fought as the first Olympians at the 2012 London Games to the remarkable night when Katie Taylor and Amanda Serrano battled as the main event at the storied Madison Square Garden.

The story of these brave warriors, though, is a continuing tale of perseverance and insistence that they belong in the ring and, through their achievements, provide for the betterment of the sport as a whole.
